You're going to get weird(er) searches in your stats now.

I can work out the internal logic of most of the connections, though some are necessarily obscure interpretations.

Last weird search I noted was "paginat sex". Who knows what on earth that means.

Here we go: what else to do on a foggy Wed morning for quarter of an hour but seek to explain the internal workings?

pig [pork and cabbage go well] cabbage [?] radio [car radio - long cliched straight roads in mid west] dustbowl [roadkill] stoat [?] microphone [fancy=tune or song] fancy [jig: Coleman's Fancy] coalman [I had a stoneware pot pitfiring in the coalfire] stoneware [ditto chimney] flue [flu - virus] ebola [jungle - gibbons pun] gibbous [those monkey chains from childhood] concatenate [rhyme?] triplicate [?] piecemeal [meal, oatmeal, and for some reason I associate fustian with drab which is wrong] fustian [pompous jobsworths = taxman] bastards [no comment] help [?] spasmodic [guessed I was around twenty words:] twenty [sound association] titian [comment on same] rhyme [was sorting suitcases full of crap earlier from loft] suitcase [misspelled suitcase suicase] suicide [...] tremble [?] trepanned [explanations to be gained my looking through holes in heads] explicate [?] custom [traditional cultures] bhutan farfalle dredge [nautical] privateer [pirate] chest [grace O malley] banshee [gaelic traditions] broch [broch fort - burg fort] hamburger [junkfood - disney] fantasia [?] dribble [? throwback to nautical theme?] capstan much frit sponge tor [hilltop, longbarrow] peglar [longbarrow - particular night in 1991] drumbeat [beat, measure, ruler] sliderule [infinitude of number] ceaseless [alliteration] sandwich [ham and mustard] sulphur [...] salt

I missed a couple: bhutan [?] farfalle [?] dredge
capstan [?] much [me often] frit [?] sponge [bathtime, toes poking out of water, profile of Haytor on Dartmoor] tor

This is an exercise I might try myself at some point - thank you for posting this (and the explanation for the associations!). I hope you are doing at least a bit better than you have been.

Abysmal Musings said...

Thanks... I find the trick is to semi-consciously not allow your mind to think of the obvious associations as you go along but let the first word that doesn't immediately make sense pop into mind.

I'm temporarily feeling just as bad, but with a cushion of a good lunch and a pint with my dad out at the pub softening the edges for the next hour or so.

I don't know if I'm doing better or worse. I can't tell if the intensity is brewing up or if (in your terms) it's just a passing squall. Battening down hatches is such a handy term - reef the mainsail! Sleep is going walkabout more by the night - does that mean the weather means I have to keep a nightwatch?

Oh well, take care, D

concatenate [those 'lacanian' knots I was using in the bad times when the whole family had left me] triplicate. A better leap. Makes more sense to me than the end-rhyme.

Abysmal Musings said...

stoat [both long, furry and phallic?] microphone

Abysmal Musings said...

triplicate [difficult one this. Triplicate is like explicate which is like extricate, and extricate things often come out piecemeal] piecemeal

best I can do on that one I'm afraid unless I dream the answer.

Abysmal Musings said...

tremble [ok, alliteration obviously, and I'd tremble at trepanning. it'll do] trepanned

Abysmal Musings said...

explicate [customs oft need explication] custom

Abysmal Musings said...

help [people acting spasmodically often need help] spasmodic

Abysmal Musings said...

bhutan [I'll have to get back to you on this one] farfalle

Abysmal Musings said...

farfalle [I have an awful feeling the connection is ghastly cookery programs. Think Jamie Oliver cooking wanky pasta followed by Delia making mudpies with 'dredged' [sic] icing sugar - yuck] dredge

Abysmal Musings said...

fantasia [well, disney makes you dribble, and if read as fantasy then then can too, (so I've been told)] dribble

Abysmal Musings said...

capstan [well, there's Capstan Full Strength, a long vanished cigarette or pipe tobacco, can't remember now but I've smoked it I think - that would be (too) much. Or... A capstan is a sort of winch I believe, and Much was one of Robin Hood's Men. If they all had Brummie accents and fancied the wenches then it would sound like winches. Dear God. What is wrong with me? Can't I at least be funny while I'm at it? Is that too much to ask? Ok, turn the winch another notch, vile rachet man and pop my joints from their glassy sheaths.] much

Abysmal Musings said...

frit [frit is a glass coating to toxic metals used in glazes - a glass bubble surrounding lead or cobalt etc. A sponge is an organic coating to air. A long shot this one. Frit as frightened though, and spongy was my courage, heart, legs and balls in the heat of the battle. Take your pick, and I'll take the shovel] sponge

Abysmal Musings said...

Blimey, that's the lot apart from cabbage [] radio.

Any suggestions, cos fucked if I have a clue?

"I can't tell if the intensity is brewing up or if (in your terms) it's just a passing squall."

"Human misery must somewhere have a stop; there is no wind that always blows a storm."
- Euripides

Remembering this is hardest when the storm's bearing down in its fullest; but keeping it in mind has helped me outlast more than one storm ... may it help you as well.
